British ultrarunner William Goodge is setting out on one of the most extreme endurance challenges on Earth—running 2,500 miles across Australia in a bold bid to set a new world record. But for Goodge, this run is about more than just miles. It’s a deeply personal journey in memory of his mother, who passed away from cancer in 2018.
The epic coast-to-coast run, stretching from Perth to Sydney, will see Goodge cover an average of 100 kilometers (62 miles) per day over several weeks. If successful, it would mark the fastest-ever crossing of Australia on foot, a record that demands both physical and mental resilience.
Goodge, already known in the endurance world for taking on extreme challenges, has said this particular mission is dedicated to his mum, who was his “biggest supporter.” The run also aims to raise awareness and funds for cancer-related causes.
“This run is about pain with purpose,” he shared. “If I can channel that loss into something powerful, maybe it helps others too.”
As he navigates harsh terrain, scorching temperatures, and the sheer toll of distance, Goodge will be fueled by memory, love, and an unshakable drive to turn grief into greatness.
