Grant Holloway was born and raised in Chesapeake, Virginia. He grew up in a sports-oriented family, with his father, Stan Holloway, being a former college athlete, and his brother, Trey Holloway, also an accomplished hurdler. Grant's athletic talents were evident from a young age, and he excelled in multiple sports, including football, basketball, and track and field during his time at Grassfield High School.
Holloway attended the University of Florida, where he became one of the most dominant collegiate track and field athletes in history. Competing for the Florida Gators, Holloway broke multiple records and won several NCAA titles. He was particularly dominant in the 110 meters hurdles and the indoor 60 meters hurdles. Holloway's versatility also saw him competing in sprints, relays, and the long jump, showcasing his extraordinary athleticism.
During his college career, Holloway set the NCAA record in the 110 meters hurdles with a time of 12.98 seconds in 2019. He also won the Bowerman Award in 2019, which is given to the top collegiate track and field athlete in the United States.
After an illustrious college career, Holloway turned professional in 2019 and signed with adidas. He quickly established himself as one of the world's premier hurdlers. Holloway continued to impress on the global stage, winning gold in the 110 meters hurdles at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha with a time of 13.10 seconds.
In 2021, Holloway set a new personal best and American record in the 110 meters hurdles with a time of 12.81 seconds, just one-hundredth of a second off the world record. Later that year, he won silver in the 110 meters hurdles at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, narrowly missing out on gold.
Holloway further solidified his dominance by winning gold in the 110 meters hurdles at the 2022 and 2023 World Athletics Championships, making him a three-time world champion in the event.
