Glenda Morejón, a distinguished Ecuadorian race walker, has made a significant mark in her sport with numerous achievements. Nominated for the Ecuadorian Olympic Committee's Best Sportswoman of the Year Award in 2023, Morejón is celebrated for her exceptional performances and dedication.
Born to Luis Anibal and Maria del Carmen, Morejón began her athletic journey early, running distance races with her father from the age of five. By seven, she joined the athletics school of coach Giovan Delgado, though she initially found the sport obligatory rather than enjoyable. By age 12, she embraced race walking and has been committed to it ever since.
Morejón's competitive career took off with a notable debut at the 2019 Gran Premio Cantones de La Coruna in Spain, where she won first place in the 20km race walk. Her Olympic debut came at Tokyo 2020, though she did not finish the race. Despite this setback, she has continued to excel on the international stage.
In 2023, Morejón finished sixth at the World Championships and earned two medals at the Pan American Games—gold in the race walk mixed relay and silver in the 20km race walk. Her achievements also include winning the 35km title at the 2022 World Race Walking Cup and securing bronze in the 10,000m race walk at the 2018 World U20 Championships. Additionally, she was the 2017 World U18 5000m race walk champion.
Morejón tops the all-time U20 list for the 20km race walk with a time of 1:25:29 set in 2019, making her the fastest athlete in this category outside of Russia and China. She is currently a Business Administration student at the Technical University of Loja and plans to pursue further studies in Psychology at Universidad Internacional La Rioja.
