Dina Asher-Smith and Daryll Neita have both advanced to the semi-finals of the women's 200m at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
While Dina was disqualified from the 100m finals - Neita came 4th - only 0.4 seconds from the podium!
Asher-Smith, a former World Champion, showcased her formidable speed by finishing second in her heat with a time of 22.28 seconds. Neita, demonstrating her prowess, won her qualifier in an impressive 22.39 seconds.
In a surprising turn of events, Jamaica's Shericka Jackson, a five-time Olympic medallist, was a non-starter. Jackson had skipped the 100m events to focus on her 200m specialty, but her absence marks a disappointing chapter for Jamaica's sprinting hopes.
Adding to the anticipation, the 200m final on Tuesday, August 6, will see a new champion crowned. The current titleholder, Elaine Thompson-Herah, is absent due to injury, ending her eight-year reign.
As the countdown to the final begins, all eyes are on the track to see who will emerge as the new 200m champion. The competition is fierce, and the excitement is palpable as these world-class athletes prepare to leave their mark on Olympic history.
