Swiss-born Jonas Raess stands tall, not just for his impressive height of 1.8m but for his remarkable achievements in the domain of long-distance running. Born in 1994, Raess embarked on his athletic journey at a young age and has since left no stone unturned in his pursuit of excellence.
Boasting a personal best time of 13:21.47 in the 5000m, secured at the 2018 European Championships in Berlin, Raess has consistently proven his prowess on the track. He further showcased his talent at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, where he delivered a commendable performance, clocking a time of 13:28.29. This impressive feat placed him 11th, just a hair's breadth behind the top ten.
Even with his successes, Raess's career has not been devoid of failures. His race at the Euro XC Championships in 2019 was an unfortunate one, where he fell short of his usual standard, finishing 38th. But like a true athlete, Raess used this setback as a stepping stone to rise higher.
His resilience is reminiscent of legendary runner Haile Gebrselassie. While Raess's 5000m record may not quite match Gebrselassie's 12:39.36, his relentless dedication and constant strive for improvement echo the spirit of the Ethiopian champion.
