Mohammed Ahmed, born on January 5, 1991, in Mogadishu, Somalia, has emerged as one of the most prominent figures in Canadian long-distance running. Fleeing the civil war in Somalia, Ahmed's family relocated to Canada when he was young, settling in St. Catharines, Ontario. This new beginning in Canada paved the way for Ahmed's future athletic success.Ahmed's talent for running became evident during his high school years at St. Catharines Collegiate, where he showcased his abilities in cross country and track. His success at the high school level earned him a scholarship to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a decision that would significantly shape his athletic career. At Wisconsin, Ahmed competed for the Wisconsin Badgers, excelling in NCAA competition. He earned multiple All-American honors and was a key contributor to his team's success in cross country and track events.
His time at Wisconsin not only honed his skills but also solidified his determination to compete at the highest levels of the sport.After graduating, Ahmed transitioned smoothly into professional running. He joined the Bowerman Track Club in Portland, Oregon, where he began training under the guidance of coach Jerry Schumacher.
