Zharnel Hughes (born July 13, 1995) is a British sprinter of Anguillan descent who has established himself as a world-class competitor, particularly in the 100 meters and 200 meters races.Born in The Valley, Anguilla, Hughes' talent shone brightly from a young age.
He dominated local school sports days, winning multiple races at the Orealia Kelly Primary School (formerly Stoney Ground Primary). At just 14 years old, he represented Anguilla on the international stage at the 2010 CARIFTA Games, finishing eighth in the 100 meters final. In 2012, at the age of 16, Hughes' talent was recognized with a scholarship to the prestigious High-Performance Training Centre in Kingston, Jamaica.
Training alongside the legendary Usain Bolt, coached by Bolt's former mentor Glen Mills, propelled Hughes' development. This association with Jamaican sprinting greats has significantly influenced his career. A two-time European Champion (2018 - 100m, 2022 - 200m), Hughes has also secured Commonwealth Games gold medals as part of the 4x100m relay team (2018, 2022).
Relay Expertise: Hughes is a vital member of the British 4x100m relay team, contributing to their success at major championships. Personal Best: Hughes' personal best in the 100 meters is 9.91 seconds, achieved in 2019. This time places him among the elite sprinters in the world.
